Polo Under a
Painted Sky
The Santa Fe Horse Park is "one of the best-kept
secrets in the polo world," according to an article in the August
2002 issue of Polo Players Edition.
Picture this: players and ponies galloping down the field, in a glorious
combination of superb athletic ability, horsemanship and strategy,
set against a backdrop of pastel mountains and turquoise skies. No
wonder polo players from all over the world are happy to come to
Santa Fe to play the game they love.
With 34 acres of meticulously groomed Kentucky blue grass, the Santa
Fe Horse Park offers an extraordinary polo experience throughout
the summer months. The experienced and knowledgable staff at the
SFHP make sure that players of all goal levels have a memorable time.
Safety and fun go hand in hand at the Horse Park.
A member of the United States Polo Association Border Circuit, the
Horse Park features 4-6 goal polo as well as a 0-3 goal coaching
league. All players must be members of the USPA to participate in
any tournament or practice. Summer seasons include at lease 14 tournaments,
with more than 75 competitors from as far away as Argentina and 200
ponies playing over 200 chukkers.
The Horse Park also offers a kids' polo program. Children work on
their riding and hitting skills at a regular weekly practice during
the summer. With the participation we've seen so far, the future
looks bright for polo in Santa Fe. |
